BMW M3, M4 to launch in India on November 26

  • When it comes to performance cars, one of the first things that come to mind is BMW’s M division. The German marque’s performance wing launched the M6 Gran CoupĂ© earlier this year. Now, BMW is launching two more high-powered Bimmers on November 26 – the M3 sedan and the M4 coupĂ©.

  • Mechanically, the two cars are very similar. Both get powered by a 3.0-litre BMW M twin-turbo six-cylinder petrol engine that makes 425bhp and 56kgm of torque. Transmission options include a seven-speed double-clutch automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual. The manual gearbox is unlikely to offered in the Indian markets.

  • Both the cars have a 0-100kph sprint time of less than five seconds, before going on to an electronically limited top-speed of 250kph. High-tensile materials used in conjunction with carbonfibre reinforced polymer on the two cars also help them duck under the 1,500kg mark. This load shedding has not only helped improve performance but has also helped reduce fuel consumption by a claimed 25 percent.
  • The cars made their global debut in early 2014, and both the M3 and the M4 are based on the same platform; the difference is in terms of design. The M3 takes from the 3-series sedan, while the M4 shares details with the 4-series coupe.

New Maruti Alto K10 automatic claims highest fuel efficiency

  • Maruti's newest model with the ever-popular Alto badge, the new Alto K10, is now available with a petrol engine equipped with either an AMT (automated manual transmission) or a five-speed manual gearbox. What’s noteworthy is that the new Alto K10 claims an ARAI-certified (Automotive Research Association of India) fuel efficiency of 24.07kpl for both the AMT-equipped and manual models.

  • The company's other AMT-equipped model, the Celerio, claims ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 23.1kpl. Based on this, the new Alto K10 is now the most fuel efficient automatic. The Alto K10 with AMT is a segment first, and combined with the claimed fuel efficiency figures, is sure to create some ripples
  • Maruti is also claiming an ARAI fuel efficiency figure of 24.07kpl for the manual Alto K10 too. With this, it will have the best figures in that category as well. As for the CNG-powered models, Maruti is claiming a figure of 32.26km per kg.
  • What you need to remember though, is that all these figures are from the ARAI, which means, they signify the fuel consumption a car achieves in perfect-world conditions. These figures are calculated in a research facility, and hence don’t take into consideration different variables like traffic, road conditions or pollution levels. Real-world figures do tend to vary.

Toyota Etios, Liva facelift launched

  • Toyota has launched the facelifted models of the Etios sedan and Liva hatchback. The Etios facelift is priced starting at Rs 5.74 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol model and Rs 6.84 lakh for the diesel; while the Liva facelift starts at Rs 4.76 lakh for the petrol model and Rs 5.94 lakh for the diesel.

  •   The noteworthy changes on the facelifts are the new grille design and dual front airbags as standard across all trims. Mid-specced trims get additions like fabric upholstery, two rear speakers, buzzer warning for driver’s seatbelt, doors and headlamps and a larger LCD display with a clock for the instrument cluster.
  • Top trims get a 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, aux-in and steering-mounted controls, cooled glovebox, rear parking sensors, electrically-adjustable wing mirrors, new alloys and some faux-wood finish for the armrests in the cabin.

  • Also to be noted is that Toyota has tweaked the badging for the facelift models. The base trim does not carry any badging while the G, GD trims remain the same. The V, VD trims have been discontinued and now the G, GD trims with special pack have been badged V, VD. The top-end V, VD trims with special pack now carry a VX, VXD badge.
  • Mechanically, the facelifted Etios and Liva models retain engines from the current car – the 1.2- and 1.5-litre petrol and the 1.4-litre diesel.
  • In what comes across as a very positive move, the facelifted models point to an increased focus on safety by Toyota. By offering dual front airbags as standard across the range, Toyota has followed Volkswagen’s suit, which offered dual front airbags on all trim levels of the new Polo.

  • Recently, Bajaj Auto had also shown concern over the rise in input cost, hinting to increase the prices of its vehicles across segments soon. However, Bajaj might increase the price post the festive season keeping consumer sentiments in mind. Other manufactures like TVS Motor and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India are also expected to follow suit and increase their vehicle prices similarly between 0.5 to 1 per cent.
  • In the four-wheeler segment, auto majors like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, Mahindra & Mahindra and Nissan have already announced a price hikes on their respective car models.

Mercedes GLA 45 AMG launch on October 27

  • Mercedes will launch the GLA 45 AMG on October 27. Coming from the performance wing of the German marquee, the GLA 45 AMG is the GLA crossover on performance enhancers.

  • Visually, the GLA 45 AMG gets the quintessential AMG makeover. A redesigned grille, more aggressive bumpers, rear diffuser, quad exhausts, 19-inch alloys and bright red brake calipers make up for the visual enhancements.
  • On the Inside, not much changes over the standard GLA. The front seats are sportier and more supportive, there’s a new flat-bottomed steering and a conventional gear lever, as opposed to a steering-mounted stalk in the GLA. Other changes include sporty, red seatbelts and contrast stitching on the dashboard.

  • Power to the GLA 45 AMG comes from the same 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that does duty in the CLA 45 AMG. It makes a mammoth 355bhp and 45.8kgm of torque. Unlike the GLA which is available only in front-wheel drive, the AMG-prepped GLA 45 is an all-wheel drive. Transmission duties are handled by a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
  • Upon launch, the GLA 45 AMG is expected to be priced at around Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Ciaz Z+ to launch in early 2015

  • When the Z+ trim launches in 2015, the only addition will be the touchscreen infotainment system. This will give it a slight edge over its closest rival the Honda City, which comes with an audio system with a 5-inch display unit on the top trims sans the touchscreen.

  • The Maruti Ciaz Z+ is expected to priced at a premium of Rs 30,000 over the Z(O), at approximately Rs 10.1 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Audi forum discusses future mobility concepts

  • Audi recently conducted an interdisciplinary discussion, with approximately 120 participants, focused on automobile connectivity with infrastructure, road users and mobile applications. It was an attempt to further intensify the open exchange of opinions and experience with experts from the fields of business, science and politics.

  • “Communication between vehicles, between vehicles and infrastructure, and between vehicles and the Internet can significantly improve safety on the roads,” emphasized Axel Strotbek, CFO of AudiAG. “Digitalization and connectivity offer new development opportunities for the mobility of the future, in combination with enhanced quality of life,” he continued.
  • Tech blogger Sascha Pallenberg said that he does not believe that cars will disappear from cities, but that they will become important network nodes. In his keynote speech, Pallenberg indicated on the one hand how global developments will revolutionize mobility, and on the other hand how the automobile itself can trigger revolutionary developments. At the same time, he appealed for more courage in dealing with issues such as digitalization and data networking.
  • He emphasized that the digitalised car has the potential to be “the next big thing,” but, it’s not a task solely for the automotive industry. According to Pallenberg, the car will increasingly become a product of connectivity and the exchange between industries and sectors that to a great extent are now operating independently of each other.
  • JosĂ© Castillo, architect and Harvard professor, also a participant in this year’s Audi Urban Future Award in the Mexico City team, presented his vision of a city that “drives out of traffic congestion on the data highway.” For what the IBM Commuter Pain Index has found to be the world’s worst commuter metropolis,” he aimed to demonstrate that thanks to the intelligent use of data, individual mobility can solve the problems it has created.
  • By means of crowdsourcing, a valid database has been created in Mexico City to facilitate sustainable urban and transport planning. “The goal is to test new forms of cooperation between governments, companies, science and citizens, in order to develop mobility in the city of the future in a positive way,” explained Castillo.
  • Automobile manufacturer is aware that increasing connectivity means that questions will have to be asked about dealing with data responsibly. Audi experts showed how the technical conditions for handling data safely will already be created during the stage of developing new cars. Peter Tropschuh, head of corporate responsibility at AUDI AG, sees contributions from stakeholders as “impetus for future developments.” He believes that the regular exchange of ideas and experience with them helps the company to identify and process society’s expectations and challenges at an early stage.

Dual-motor Tesla Model S launched

  • Tesla has launched a new four-wheel-drive version of its luxury all-electric Model S saloon.
  • The new 'D' versions feature an electric motor on each axle, whereas the existing line-up only has a driven rear axle. The addition of a driven front axle boosts traction and improves stability, consequently widening the car's appeal in markets where inclement weather and poor road conditions are frequent.
  • Customers will be able to pick from three variants – the 60D, 85D and P85D. UK pricing has yet to be announced, but the all-wheel-drive Teslas command a premium of $4000 – approximately £2500 – over rear-drive models.

  • That means that, in the UK, a four-wheel-drive Model S 60D would cost £57835. The flagship P85D will set you back around £76,635.
  • Tesla boss Elon Musk said: "What makes this unique and better than previous all-wheel-drive cars is that you can dynamically shift the power from front to rear at the millisecond level; you can very quickly adjust torque – more than is possible than with a mechanical system.
  • "With all all-wheel-drive systems out there, they're less efficient. In the case of the Model S, because we can shift the power so quickly, we can be constantly at the most efficient point for the individual motors and overcome the weigh penalty. Literally everything improves."
  • The 60D and 85D's electric motors produce 188bhp and 181lb ft, resulting in a combined 376bhp and 362lb ft. The 60D variant has a claimed top speed of 125mph, a 0-60mph time of 5.7sec and a range of 225 miles at an average of 65mph. The higher-performance 85D delivers 155mph, 5.2sec and 295 miles respectively.
  • What's most notable, however, is the new flagship version – badged the P85D. It packs significantly more powerful motors, with the front electric motor producing 221bhp and 244lb ft, the rear 470bhp and 443lb ft. That means a net output of 691bhp and 687lb ft.
  • Consequently the P85D delivers supercar-like acceleration figures, in part thanks to the ability of an electric motor to produce maximum torque from 0rpm; Tesla claims it can dispatch the 0-60mph sprint in 3.2sec, as fast as a Ferrari 458 Speciale, and complete the standing quarter mile in 11.8sec.
  • Despite its performance credential the P85D is also claimed to have a range, at a constant 65mph, in the region of 275 miles.
  • Additionally, both the 60D and 85D perform better in all areas – including range – than their two-wheel-drive equivalents, despite an 80kg weight penalty.
  • The P85D version is much faster than its rear-drive alternative, but its range is ten miles less – presumably because of an additional 132kg incurred by larger motors and the addition of the four-wheel-drive system. It does boast a 50/50 weight distribution, however, and can deliver an accelerative force of 1G.
  • Musk added: "This car is nuts. It's like taking off from a carrier deck; just bananas. It's like your own personal roller coaster."
  • During the presentation at which the new D variant was revealed, Tesla also showcased a semi-autonomous mode for the Model S. Thanks to the use of myriad cameras and sensors, it permits the car the ability to change lanes of its own accord when a driver indicates, regulate its speed according to the signposted limits, self-park and perform emergency stops.

Ferrari F60 America unveiled

  • Ferrari has revealed an exclusive model, called the F60 America, to commemorate its 60th year in North America.
  • The company says the car, an open-topped version of the F12 Berlinetta, "combines our American client's two great passions – the V12 engine and open-top driving."

  • Only ten of the new F60Americas will be produced, paying homage to the likes of the 10-strong production run of the 1967 275 GTS4 NART Spider that was commissioned exclusively for America. Each F60 America cost £1.56 million, a significant premium over the £238,938 of the standard F12 Berlinetta, and all are already accounted for.
  • Besides the deletion of the roof, the cosmetic changes to the F12 Berlinetta on which the car is based are myriad. The nose, wings and doors have all been restyled, while the distinctive 'aero bridge' found on the tail of the F12 has been removed.
  • The exterior is finished in North American Racing Team livery and special 60th anniversary prancing horse badges adorn the wheelarches. The two roll hoops are trimmed in leather and backed with carbonfibre-trimmed flying buttresses which stretch to the rear of the car.

  • Inside the F60America features bespoke cabin trim, with the driver's side being finished in red and the passenger side in black – a reputed nod to historic Ferrari competition cars. The seats also feature stylised American flags, while design cues from the LaFerrari and 458 Speciale – such as the blade-like gear selection panel – have been adopted. A light fabric top is supplied, which closes the cabin and can withstand speeds of up to 75mph.
  • Power comes from the same 6.3-litre V12 used in the F12, which produces 731bhp and 509lb ft, and power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. A 0-62mph time of just 3.1sec is claimed, the same as the F12 Berlinetta.
  • The new car will be publicly unveiled at an anniversary celebration gala dinner at the Beverly Hills City Hall on 11 October. Ferrari has also previously displayed a bespoke roofless F12 Berlinetta, called the F12 TRS.
  • Speaking at the Paris motor show, new Ferrari chief Sergio Marchionne expressed slight frustration at the fact that all the anniversary models had already sold, however. "I'm not saying we should make 20", he said, "but I think we should make the product available."

Tacita T-Race Diabolika E-Bike First Look

  • Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Tacita has revealed its latest project, the T-Rae Diabolika, a project the company has been working on since 2009.
  • Tacita calls the T-Race Diabolika an “evolution of Cross, Enduro and Rally versions” equipped with 19-inch wheels and carbon-kevlar bodywork.

  • The engine is an electric asynchronous three-phase induction engine, powered by LI-PO Lythium polymer batteries, equipped with a 5-speed gearbox and tested in race conditions during the Merzouga Rally.
  • The battery pack will come in two different energy densities – 10.6 kWh and 5.3 kWh. Two mapping options are available, Eco and Sport. For the 10.6kWh model, city range is estimated at 200 km and highway range to be 150 km. For the smaller 5.3 kWh, the estimated ranges will be about half.
  • Charging time on the 10.6 kWh model, with a 3 kW charger is listed at 3 hours, 40 minutes while with a 1 kW charger time goes up to 10 and a half hours. For the 5.3 kWh Diabolika, a 3 kW charger powers it to full charge in one hour, 50 minutes while a 1 kW charger will take five and a half hours to fully charge the power pack.

Autonomous Audi RS7 to race in Germany

  • An autonomous Audi RS7 Sportback will attempt to complete a full racing lap of the Hockenheim race circuit next weekend.
  • Designed to showcase the advances made in driverless car technology, Audi says the autonomous RS7 will be able to race at around the same speed as with a professional racing driver at the wheel.

  • The firm expects the RS7 to complete the 2.8-mile lap in just over two minutes, reaching speeds of up to 149mph. Audi's own R8 holds a lap time of 2.00.65min at the circuit, according to Fastestlaps.com.
  • The RS7 is powered by a turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 direct-injection petrol engine producing 552bhp and 516lb ft. Official performance figures point to a 0-62mph sprint time of 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 155mph.
  • The attempt will take place during the season finale of the German Touring Car Championship on October 19.
  • This isn’t the first time Audi has shown a driverless car in action. In 2010 the firm revealed a specially-designed TTS rally car, which was fielded on the famous Pikes Peak hillclimb course.
  • Audi has also recently shown the benefits of its developmental electric turbocharging technology, fitted to an RS5 prototype.

Long waiting period for the KTM RC390 and RC200

  • The KTM RC390 and RC200 were among the most highly anticipated launches of 2014. Given the fact that the bikes were launched almost a month back we haven’t come across any motorcycles on the road yet. When we called up a few dealers across the country about the delivery details of the KTM RC390 and RC200 they said the bikes carry a waiting period and none of the bikes have been officially delivered yet.
  • According to dealers the KTM RC390 and RC200 currently have a three month waiting period as communicated to them by KTM officials. But many of them are confident that the first lot of KTM RC390 will be delivered by end of October while the RC200 will take a little more time.

  • Almost all the dealerships quoted that they have received more than 60 bookings for the KTM RC390 and around 40 units for the RC200, which according to them is a tremendous response for a bike of this class.
  • The KTM RC390 and the RC200 have been launched at an introductory price of Rs 2.05 lakh and Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Talking about numbers the KTM RC390 is powered by a 375cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor churning out 43.6PS of power and 35Nm of torque. While the KTM RC200’s mill pumps out of 25.3PS of maximum power and torque rating of 19.2Nm. Both the powerplants are mated to a 6-speed transmission.

  • Despite the Rs 45,000 premium that the KTM RC390 commands over its 200cc sibling, it seems consumers are drawn towards the higher displacement offering. This doesn’t really come as a surprise, as for that money, one gets a more powerful motor, Metzeler tyres and the benefit of ABS.
  • Booking amount for the KTM RC390 and RC200 is Rs 30,000. So if you are planning to get a KTM RC390 or a RC200 in your garage soon we will suggest you better book them early before the waiting period extends further.

Ferrari dismisses motorcycle rumours

  • Over the past week, several stories have been published on the Internet speculating about Ferrari working on a motorcycle engine after a patent lodged by the firm was published in the European Patent Office (EPO) website.
  • The patent showed a cruiser-style motorcycle with a V-Twin engine and stories quickly linked the patent to the development of an actual Ferrari motorcycle.

  • Ferrari’s Northern European spokesperson Jason Harris has now been quoted by MCN of dismissing any such plans and saying that “there is no motorcycle future for Ferrari.”
  • Harris has gone on to explain that the image of the motorcycle was only used to demonstrate the technology Ferrari has chosen to protect. The patent was filed for a new balancing technology that eliminates the need for a balancer shaft as it manages to balance each side of the Vee of an engine at the planes of the crank, Harris was quoted as saying.
  • Ferrari’s patent explores the vibrational forces in a V-Twin engine and eliminating the need for a balancer shaft has benefits in terms of weight and packaging. What was demonstrated as a V-Twin can actually be replicated on a V4, V6, V8 or V12 engine, Harris explained and put to rest any further speculation about a V-Twin motorcycle from Ferrari.

  • The bike’s been on sale in Europe over four years, so the engine is the same 749cc, four-stroke, inline four-cylinder, liquid cooled unit that has been doing service on the European version, but has been tuned for more mid range power. The unit makes a healthy 106.5PS at 10,000 revs and about 80Nm of torque at 9,000rpm.
  • The bike’s frame design combines the advantages of a compact tubular streetbike frame and a twin-spar sportbike frame. Dual front disc brakes use floating 310mm discs, and the rear uses a 240mm disc. The bike’s instrument cluster uses an analog tach and a large digital LCD speedo. It’s packed with other informative readouts, and is adjustable for brightness.

  • The GSX-S750 is available in Metallic Matte Black at a price of $7,999 (about Rs 4.9 lakh) in the U.S. or $ 8,149 (a little over Rs 5 lakh) for the Special Edition GSX-750Z, featuring Metallic Triton Blue and Pearl Glacier White bodywork, as well as gold-anodized fork tubes, red-anodized fork adjuster bolts, a red shock spring and blue chain.
  • It certainly is a good looking naked, and we do hope Suzuki brings this bike to India, or better still, builds one here, to make it an affordable hi-performance streetfighter.

  • The new GTS is fitted as standard with Porsche's Chrono package and PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) system, which makes the ride height 10mm lower than the Carrera S.
Porsche's GTS coupé is claimed to accelerate from 0-100kph in 4.0 seconds when fitted with the PDK gearbox. All versions top out at 299kph but the GTS coupé with the manual gearbox is claimed to be the fastest, at 305kph.

Volvo unveils 444bhp 4-cylinder Drive-E engine

  • Volvo has just taken the wraps off the most powerful version of its new 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, Drive-E engine family. This new petrol motor makes 444bhp, a huge 222bhp per litre. Volvo's current top engine, the T5, makes 245bhp.
  • The carmaker, however, has not revealed a likely launch date yet.
  • The new engine uses two conventional turbochargers supplemented by an electrically powered ‘turbo-compressor’. Its triple-charging setup is also supplemented by a fuel pump running at an unusually high 250 bar pressure. The turbo-compressor is used to ‘spool up’ the two turbochargers when the engine is running at low revs, thereby dramatically reducing turbo lag and off-boost performance.

  • Volvo engineers claim that this new forced-induction set-up “enables a very dynamic drivability without any turbo lag.” All of Volvo's suppliers, including AVL, Denso and Volvo Polestar Racing, have all been involved in the engine development, the company said.
  • Volvo's research and development boss Dr. Peter Mertens said: “When we launched the Drive-E powertrain family, our aim was to deliver the most advanced four-cylinder engines in the industry based on emissions and fuel consumption relative to performance and drivability.
  • "We knew that 316bhp in our petrol configuration was just a starting point. The 444bhp High Performance Drive-E Powertrain Concept, demonstrates this ambition and the versatility of the Drive-E powertrains."
  • The result was a unique engine with high power yet quick response. Its compact size also improves weight distribution between the front and rear axle, and lowers the centre of gravity - two factors that have a significant effect on the handling, whether it is a race car or a street car, Mattias Evensson, race engine director at Volvo Polestar Racing added.
  • "Compact powertrains also free up space and weight in the structure of the car, which can be used for electrification and even further emissions reduction. And that is our ultimate ambition,” said Mertens.

Kawasaki Ninja H2 teaser pic released

  • Kawasaki has released a teaser image of the upcoming Ninja H2 superbike prior to its official debut next month.
  • The track oriented Kawasaki H2R hyperbike was without doubt the highlight of the 2014 INTERMOT show. Now, Kawasaki has revealed a video in which it has teased the street-legal version of the bike which will be most likely christened the Kawasaki Ninja H2.
  • In the teaser video two bikes have been showcased, the first reads “track” and shows the Kawasaki H2R while it is followed by the word “street” and a teaser pic is introduced which signifies that the latter will be the street version of the H2R.

  • From the silhouette of the new Ninja H2 one can see that it has been equipped with a headlight, tail lamp, turn indicators, rear-view mirrors, rear mudguard with a number plate holder.
  • The design of the new motorcycle is similar to the Kawasaki H2R which is edgy and sharp. But minor changes have been made on the street-spec version like a shorter windscreen, missing winglets as seen on the Kawasaki H2R and redesigned twin stacked exhaust end cans unlike the megaphone muffler as on the H2R. Styling details like the starfish wheels and single-sided swingarm though have been maintained on the Kawasaki H2.

  • Powering the new bike will be the same 998cc, in-line-four, supercharged motor as found on the Kawasaki H2R. But the powerplant will be detuned on the Kawasaki H2 and although Kawasaki haven’t divulged any details about the bikes power figures it is expected to be between 225 to 250PS which is significantly higher than any production litre-class superbikes currently.
  • It is expected that the Kawasaki H2 will make its official debut at the upcoming 2014 EICMA motorcycle show in Mila, Italy scheduled next month.
  • In terms of pricing, the Kawasaki H2 will be the new halo bike for the Japanese two-wheeler giant and it is expected to be priced at a marginal premium over the Ninja ZX-14R. Since Kawasaki brings its performance motorcycles via the CBU route in our market we can expect the H2 to head our shores in 2015.

2014 INTERMOT: Triumph unveils Bonneville special editions

  • Updates to all the three special edition bikes are cosmetic and symbolic, with the T214 and Spirit Special based on the Bonneville T100 platform and the Newchurch based on the standard-issue Bonneville.

T214 Land Speed Limited Edition

  • The T214 Land Speed Limited Edition is a celebration of Johnny Allen’s record-setting run at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1956. Allen ran a Triumph Thunderbird 650-powered streamliner called the Texas Cee-Gar at the flats that year to set a record of 214.4 mph.
  • The Bonneville T214 gets a special paint scheme featuring a blue and white tank, a blue front mudguard with the white star motif reminiscent of the one on Allen’s bike. The wheels, handlebars and rear suspension springs have been blacked out. There will only be 1000 T214s produced worldwide.

Spirit Special

  • The Spirit Special is designed to “celebrate the spirit of customization.” It’s done in a Spirit Blue/New England White dual tone paint scheme. Blacked out handlebars, mirror housings, engine covers, wheels and hubs contrast the paint scheme of the tank and mudguards, and match the black headlight sourced from a Triumph Scrambler.

Newchurch

  • The Newchurch edition is a tribute, designed to celebrate the annual Tridays festival in Austria, a yearly event which is one of the biggest gatherings of Triumph fans and owners in the world. During the event, the town of Neukirchen goes by the name of Newchurch and hosts British bands, food and other entertainment while celebrating all things Triumph.
  • The Newchurch Bonneville is available in two different hand-painted colorways: Cranberry Red/Pure White or a Sapphire Blue/Pure White. It comes with blacked out mudguards, headlamp bowl, handlebars and mirrors.
  • The special edition Bonnevilles will be manufactured only for a limited number of motorcycles and Triumph may not bring in these special edition bikes to India.

Mahindra to acquire 51% stake in Peugeot Motorcycles

  • The transaction will involve infusion of Euro 15 million (about Rs 116 crore) into Peugeot Motorcycles (PMTS) to finance projects through the strategic partnership, and further sale of shares to enable Mahindra Two Wheelers (MTWL) to take a 51 per cent stake in PMTC.

  • “The coming together of Mahindra and Peugeot is a win-win for the two wheeler business of both companies. Mahindra would offer access to the Indian market, mass market product technology and competence in marketing while Peugeot brings premium range, a strong European footprint, and a globally recognized brand. This partnership will enable both MTWL and PMTC to speed their international expansion by driving synergies and leveraging respective strengths of both parties,” said Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra and Mahindra.
  • Mahindra Two Wheelers is a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra Limited and part of the US$ 16.5 billion Mahindra Group. Peugeot Motorcycles (PMTC) is part of the Euro 54 billion PSA Group based in France. PMTC is a key player in urban mobility in Europe for 116 years and is the oldest motorized two wheeler manufacturer in the world.
  • Under the terms of the agreement, MTWL will support PMTC’s global growth plan and brand
building effort and PSA would support the brand and growth strategy by holding a minority share for a long term. MTWL will be committed to the current leadership team at PMTC. This would be a similar approach the Mahindra group has followed in other global transactions such as the acquisition of Korean automaker SsangYong.
