The Sunday Exotic: 2015 Parx Super Car Show

Sunday mornings at the Royal Western India Turf Club, when there’s no derby, usually mean peace and quiet, some training for the jockeys and stately trotting for equestrian enthusiasts. All was shattered this morning by the sound of well, a few thousand horsepower.

The second day of the Parx Super Car show’s main and only event, the supercar parade, flagged off from Turf Club at about 11a.m. “Let’s show the people of Mumbai what the supercar is all about.”, Mr. Gautam Singhania said to all participants during the drivers briefing. And that is exactly what the owners of those machines did. And what machines. You’d be fooled into believing Ferrari 458s and Lamborghini Aventador’s were common on our streets. There were others too. A smattering of BMW M3s, M4s, M5s and an X6; a couple of Porsche 911s and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMGs; a few Lamborghini Gallardo’s; a couple of Nissan GTRs;  a Ferrari FF; a Maserati GranCabrio; a Rolls Royce Ghost; a Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe; an Aston Martin convertible and some others as well.

They took off from Turf Club, headed to Nariman point, then turned around towards Bandra via the sea-link and finally made their way back to Turf Club. At the end of it all, as each super car was driven out, the crowd cheered wildly. But none got more cheers than the rare LaFerrari which didn’t take part in the parade, but was driven out at the end of the show by Mr. Singhania.
