New Vauxhall Adam S gets 148bhp
- The definitive production version of the new performance-oriented Vauxhall Adam S will be unveiled at next month's Paris motor show.
- The 124mph city car was first seen in pre-production form at the Geneva motor show in March. In France Vauxhall will show the final car ahead of it going on sale in January 2015.
- The Vauxhall Adam S has a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine that develops 148bhp and 162lb ft, coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. Those outputs are 49bhp and 66lb ft increases over the non-turbo 1.4 Adam upon which the Adam S is based.
- Vauxhall says it has added hollow-cast camshafts and a plastic intake manifold to reduce weight alongside a hollow-cast iron block. The car can cover 0-62mph in 8.5sec. Adam S can achieve a claimed 44.1mpg on the combined cycle and emits 149g/km of CO2.
- Other features of the Adam S include large VXR performance brakes, sports suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels shod in 225/35 R18 tyres and a subtle bodykit that includes a rear spoiler.
- Inside, there are Recaro sports seats and a 'Red 'n' Roll' theme, with red trim and leather upholstery. The concept also comes with Vauxhall's IntelliLink infotainment system, featuring numerous apps as well as Apple iPhone integration.
