Maruti Ciaz diesel claims highest fuel efficiency

  • Details keep trickling in as the Maruti Ciaz inches closer to launch. One of the details that stand out is the ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of the Ciaz diesel. At 26.21kpl, it is slightly more than the 26kpl of the segment-leader Honda City diesel.

  • One of the primary reasons buyers go for diesel models is the higher fuel efficiency compared to petrol variants. Very rarely do sedans make it to the list of most fuel efficient cars owing to higher kerb weights, larger dimensions and larger engines than hatchbacks and compact sedans. Based on ARAI-certified numbers, some of the most fuel efficient diesel cars in the market today are the Honda City, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Chevrolet Beat and the Hyundai Grand i10.
  • ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) ratings signify the fuel consumption a car could possibly achieve in perfect conditions. They are calculated in a laboratory, and hence don’t take into consideration things like heavy traffic, poor condition of the roads and pollution levels. Thus, in real-world scenarios, the fuel-efficiency does tend to vary a lot.
